Who is the best negotiator in the world? dont jump into search engines….. You can bluntly answer its my(your own) child….
Children are the best negotiators in the world.
In general the phases of negotiation are:
First phase is Preparation – This is the fundamental process of negotiation
Kid: I need a hot wheel toy car, I need to get this before next week Sunday
Second, Discussion – Here the purpose is to set ground rules
Kid: “Dad, I need to talk to you”
Dad: “Yes dear, tell me”
Kid: “You should fully listen to me, should not say no in the very begining, you have the option at the end”
Third phase, Clarification – Both the parties will clarify information to each other
Kid: “I need a Hot wheels car and a track”
Dad: “Oh you need car and track both?…No, not now”
Kid: “I told you alredy, you should not say “no” in the very begining. Why you will not buy for me?”
Fourth, Bargaining – both the parties will put forth their requirement and speak up to acheive it
Dad: “Listen, recently I bought you a bicycle, you are asking me another toy this soon… this is not done”
Kid: “Please dad, I will compromise, I dont want Hotwheel car and track both , buy me only one car thats enough.
Dad: “Let me think”
Kid: “Take your time dad, I can wait for it”
Fifth phase, Closure – It could be Win-Win/Win-Loss/Loss-Loss
Kid: “So, can you buy by next week Saturday?”
Day: “Yes, lets go together to the shop on next Saturday”
Next time when your child approaches you to buy his/her favourite toy, then correlate this 5 phases. They are best at it
